Sean Paul Speaks Up On Homophobia

First Kanye West, now dancehall star Sean Paul has come out to
criticize rampant homophobia in today's music. Paul tells the UK's
Guardian that, "People need to free up their thinking. Why say it so many times? It's really hurting the music on a monumental level."
This
is no small matter: as homophobic as hip-hop comes off, they're
practically queer-friendly compared to dancehall's virulent gay-bashing
lyrics. Playlouder's article on this story includes lines from Tok and
Elephant Man, including the latter's "A Nuh Fi Wi Fault," who exhorts,
"Battyman fi dead! Please mark we word. Gimme tha tech-nine. Shoot dem
like bird," which translated, basically means "believe me, I'm going to
shoot some gay people." Looks like some thugs need hugs.
